This isnt anything new in society or tumblr but it’s amazing how many times the sentiment of “addicts are people” gets you violent backlash from users who are otherwise progressive. Anyone who says that addicts don’t deserve mistreatment and estrangement is automatically slotted as saying “drugs are good everyone do drugs!”

I’ve seen it happen like 4 times this year and I’m not even active in disability discourse anymore.

Because accepting drug addicts as humans means accepting you could be one, but if you dehumanize them that means you suddenly are immune to falling into hard times. You think extending even a lick of sympathy or understanding towards addicts will somehow “taint you”.

If you think any modern society should consider a group of people outcasts or degenerates you’re not as progressive as you think you are and should feel bad.

If what I’m saying makes you feel bad then good. Redirect your anger into trying to understand people that aren’t you.

People love to talk about the black and white morality on this site but will then promote “these people good, these people bad” ideology. Try actually challenging your morals it’s fun easy and free
